Lowered thresholds for associations

"It's great fun here! The most fun is skating and hugging and playing with the bears" Svea from Filsbäck's preschool is excited to be in the ice rink in Lidköping.

Around 50 five-year-olds from the pilot preschools Filsbäck, Vinninga, Vinninga Folkets Hus and Lilleskogs preschool have gathered in the ice rink in Lidköping. It's full steam ahead both on the ice and in the booths as several generations gather to skate. On hand to help the children tie and skate are students from the children and leisure program, volunteers, representatives from several winter sports in Lidköping, Fritidsbanken and preschool staff.

Elicia Andersson, one of the students at the Children and Leisure Program in Lidköping, helps the children on the ice and sees the joy in the children when they challenge themselves. "I helped a child who was unsure of her skates, in the beginning I held her hand, then I let her take the sledge and I gave her different goals to reach on the ice. She started to get it with her feet and after the snack I saw that she was skating by herself!"

"The children don't want to stop riding, we didn't think they would be able to ride for so long, they have been riding for two hours! It's amazing to see the joy of the children!" says Julia Hildorzon, project manager of Make a Move.

The aim of the activity day is to stimulate interest in leisure-time physical activity and to lower the thresholds for joining a sports club. Lidköping municipality, together with the city of Mölndal, is a pilot municipality for Make a Move. In addition to this activity day, many other efforts are being made in areas such as preschools, sports, schools and health care, all with the aim of creating a more active society for residents. The lessons learned from these activities will guide the design of a model for increased movement that can be applied to other places in the country in the future.

"A seed is sown here to awaken the joy of movement, and for us it was a matter of course to participate. I hope this will be a recurring event, the children think it's great fun," says Rosanna Andersson, principal of Vinninga/Filsbäck's preschool area, to NLT.

Make a Move is a long-term initiative for increased movement and improved health in Västra Götaland. As a gathering of actors from different sectors of society, together we spread knowledge and create concrete initiatives that contribute to a more active society. We test new approaches and produce good examples that show that it is possible and encourage more people to follow suit. The initiative started in the fall of 2021. It is project managed by RF-SISU Västra Götaland and is run with financial support from the Västra Götaland region. We offer coaching, training, lectures and access to knowledge and research in the field. The goal is for people to see movement as a natural and positive part of life and to participate actively in society. Through physical literacy , we can help more people to make their best life journey. This in turn contributes to sustainable social development in line with the UN's 2030 Agenda.
