"Are you 65+? Do you want to join a homesocialadventure? Do you feel that you want to get out andget out and about and make contacts? Then you arethen you are welcome to join the Senior Sport School."
That's how it sounds when municipalities invite people to the Senior Sport School initiative, which was launched in 2018. The aim is to help people age healthily, inspire them to spend active and meaningful leisure time with others, and show them the opportunities to continue playing sport throughout their lives.
Seniors meet twice a week for 8-12 weeks to try out different physical activities at local sports clubs, listen to lectures on diet, health and injury prevention, receive CPR training and cook healthy meals together. The sports included vary depending on the associations participating in the municipality in question and the participation fee is low to give as many people as possible the chance to take part.
Senior Sport School is a collaboration between RF-SISU Västra Götaland, Region Västra Götaland, municipalities and sports clubs. Borås and Ulricehamn were the first to participate, and 13 other municipalities have since followed suit. Here you can see the invitations from Hjo and Härryda.
