Health and medical services

Many health problems that come to the attention of health services stem from unhealthy lifestyles and insufficient physical activity. It is therefore in the interest of health services that people are physically active. Physical literacy can play an important role in early and preventive health care.
The National Board of Health and Welfare believes that more people in need of care should be supported to change their lifestyle. For patients who are sedentary, this may involve counseling on behavior change or prescribing physical activity. It can be used in combination with other treatments, or in some cases replace medication altogether.
In the field of elderly and disability care, many people rely on support from others to find motivation to move, become physically active and reduce their sedentary lifestyle. By maintaining or improving the mobility that individuals have left, we can increase quality of life and well-being. Physical activities can also provide a social context or outdoor activities that positively affect mood.
