The Public Health Agency of Sweden has conducted a literature search and review of systematic reviews on hazardous outdoor play and its impact on children's health. The synthesized research suggests that risky outdoor play generally has more positive health effects compared to avoiding risky play.
Overall, the results of the review suggest positive effects of risky outdoor play on several health outcomes and behaviors in children. Especially in terms of increased physical activity and/or reduced sedentary behavior, but also for social relationships, injuries and aggression. Despite the poor quality of the studies, the authors of the review believe that the health benefits of risky outdoor play are greater than when risky outdoor play is avoided.
